General information
Earthquake Engineering Research Institute of Yunnan Province(EERIY)was founded in 1986. It is equipped with a domestically first-class seismic laboratory (located in Chenggong campus of KUST) and engineering structure testing systems with a total value of RMB 25 million, which are fully functional and technologically advanced, including 4m×4m seismic simulation shake table, pseudo-static and quasi-dynamic test system, etc. The competent and energetic research team consists of 33 people with an average age of 44, more than half have got PHD. EERIY is in a quite advanced rank in China.
EERIY has highly concerned the frequent and intense natural earthquakes, and adheres to the development mode of combining scientific research and application, a large number of earthquake-resistant, disaster prevention and mitigation technology have been developed and applied in engineering, based on the natural test site and research base formed by earthquakes. It is aimed at solving the major theoretical and practical problems of disaster prevention and mitigation in the construction engineering with regard to energy, transportation, lifeline and urban infrastructure, which are widely concerned home and abroad and and block the economic development. In recent years, with the deepening of disciplinary research and the expansion of research fields, stable research directions have been formed, such as seismic technology of engineering structures, comprehensive urban disaster prevention and mitigation, and health monitoring of engineering structures. Sustained by EERIY together with many other relevant companies and departments, the technology of earthquake reduction with dampers and isolators in Yunnan Province has developed rapidly, and its application scale is significantly leading in the whole country. It has played a good demonstration and leading role in the research and development of the technology of earthquake reduction in the whole country.
EERIY has made full use of Yunnan province's strategic advantages as a bridgehead facing south and southeast Asia. By actively integrating into and serving the "One Belt And One Road" development strategy, the regional influence of EERIY and Yunnan province in the field of anti-earthquake engineering, disaster prevention and mitigation have been significantlypromoted in south and southeast Asia .

1. Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Protection Engineering
Brief Introduction:
This major is a key construction discipline which is in urgent need of development in the 7th and 15th provincial levels of Yunnan province. It is the only discipline in the province that insists on the research of earthquake engineering and disaster reduction and prevention for a long time.It mainly applies relevant theories and technologies to study the theories, methods and technical measures of civil engineering to resist various natural and man-made disasters.The research focuses on seismic technology and urban comprehensive seismic disaster prevention, forming distinctive research results in the research and development of seismic isolation products, design and analysis theory, engineering application, earthquake insurance, urban seismic safety assessment and other aspects.Research direction to the situation of Yunnan province and economic development needs, to solve the high intensity seismic region infrastructure construction, urban construction, industrial and civil buildings, lifeline engineering and other major practical problems played a huge role, has important theoretical and realistic significance, promotes the frontier minority areas of social progress and economic prosperity.

Brief Introduction:
Structural engineering is an important discipline for the studyingon civil engineering, and plays a very important role in the field of construction engineering. The subject combines the needs of China modernization and the development of the forefront of the subject.Students of this major mainly study structure theory and its calculation methods, researching and developing new structure.The majorfully absorbs the world's advanced structural theory, computer technology and related disciplines of the latest research results. It is a comprehensive and systematic research on steel structure, concrete structure, composite structure, basic engineering and new building materials, so as to achieving the purpose of structural safety, reliability and economic practicality, and promoting the continuous development of structural engineering disciplines.

Brief Introduction:
Combining with the characteristic of our college and Yunnan local advantage, this college sets up the Mechanics of Engineering Structure Disaster Prevention as our own second subject beyond the first-level discipline of Mechanics. The doctoral students should have independent research ability of earthquake engineering and disaster prevention & mitigation protection, could obtain the required knowledge independently, put forward and solve specific problems.
