General information Undergraduate Programs

Civil engineering: Directed by the professional standard of the university civil engineering undergraduate guiding, the major focuses on fostering highly specialized talent who master the base theory, base knowledge and base skill of this subject, and trains them to receive the qualification certificate such as RES (Registered Structural Engineer)、Certified Civil Engineer, Certified Cost Engineer and so on. when they graduated, they could work on housing construction, highway and city road, bridge, tunnel and underground construction, municipal construction, railway engineering, geotechnical engineering survey, design, construction, management, research, education, consultation, supervision, investment, and development and other technical or management station. There are three directions of civil engineering to meet the demand of the market: Architectural Engineering, Transportation & Civil Engineering and Geotechnical & Underground Engineering. At present, our academy possesses a doctor degree discipline of Disaster Prevention& Mitigation Protector Engineering; a first-class master's degree program of Civil Engineering and several second-class master's degree programs such as Structural Engineering, Highway & Railway Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, etc. This specialty is the key specialty in Yunnan Province. Our college is a base of innovative talents culture and got through the national universities education evaluation in May 2007. There is a pilot program of "2+2" China-Australia two-way cultivation. The graduate could get double bachelor's degrees from KMUST (Kunming University of Science and Technology) and University of Newcastle in Australia.

Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering: This specialty mainly focuses on the supplying power system, architectural environment controlling and planning, design, construction, installation, equipment debugging, operation management, equipment development, product marketing of building facilities intelligent engineering. The students mainly study the basis of natural science, building environment, heat transfer, engineering thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and engineering mechanics etc. Students in this major are train to be country-level registered Equipment Engineer (air-conditioning and week electricity). When they graduate, the students can work in design and research institute, engineering company, equipment manufacturing enterprise, management department etc. Degree to Be Awarded: Bachelor of Engineering

City Underground Space Engineering: The students of this major are educated into professionals with knowledge, ability and overall harmonious development, basic knowledge of mathematics, mechanics and humanities and social science. The students need to understand the development and dynamics of urban underground space engineering, master the basic technology and knowledge of urban underground space engineering planning, development, design and construction, get regulation and licensure in engineering. When they graduate, the students can work in enterprise and public institution of urban underground space planning, railway transport, tunnel, municipal administration etc. Degree to Be Awarded: Bachelor of Engineering

1. Disaster Prevention and Reduction Engineering & Protection Engineering

Brief Introduction:

This subject mainly focuses on the applying relevant theories and techniques to study the theories, methods and technical measures of civil engineering against various natural and man-made disasters. The research focuses on seismic technology and urban comprehensive earthquake prevention and disaster prevention. We have achieved featured results in the research and development of seismic isolation products design and analysis theory, engineering application, earthquake insurance, urban seismic safety assessment and other aspects. We provide the help for government to formulate disaster prevention policies, for local enterprises to have market share which is more than 60% in the national damping and isolation market and for South Asia and Southeast Asian countries to contribute technology and train talent of damping. In the past five years, it has undertaken 7 national funds, participated in 6 national and local standards, and won 2 provincial science and technology awards.

2. Civil Engineering Materials

Brief Introduction:

From the perspective of the life cycle of civil engineering materials, this subject studies the scientific and engineering problems related to its performance, design, production, processing, use, degradation and waste reuse. Relying on the national engineering research center of solid wastes, It focus on the issue of waste resource utilization, solves the common technical problems existing in the industrialization of recycled building materialspossesses superior characteristics and has a leading position in the country. the relevant results have been applied in major projects such as Kunming New Airport, Shanghai World Expo, Wenchuan Earthquake Restoration and Reconstruction, and guided the construction of more than 20 recycled building materials production lines in many cities across the country. It has won 2 national awards and 2 provincial and ministerial awards.

3. Geotechnical Engineering

Brief Introduction:

Theories and techniques related to the design, construction and monitoring of geotechnical properties and foundation structures, slopes, tunnels and other geotechnical structures based on the complex and diverse topographic geological background of plateau mountains and basins are studied. The research results focusing on the geotechnical safety issues in a multi-disaster environment of the landslide and debris flow hazard breeding process and mechanism, the long tunnel disaster prediction and control technology, and Provide technical support for Kunming Metro, Xiangli Expressway , Dalin railway tunnel and various major project construction and disaster prevention in Yunnan Province. In the past five years, it has won 10 national-level projects and 3 provincial-level science and technology awards.

4. Structural Engineering

Brief Introduction:

Scientific research and engineering practice are carried out around the basic theory, design method, construction technology and other key issues of engineering structures such as buildings and Bridges. The theoretical and academic achievements represented by the aseismic mechanism of concrete special-shaped column frame joints, the sliding effect of composite beam joints and the mechanical and deformation mechanism of wooden structure joints and their practical design methods have been obtained. It provides technical support and guidance by means of technological innovation and standard formulation for major engineering projects in Yunnan province, such as the safety of primary and secondary school buildings, the reinforcement and renovation of dilapidated rural houses, and the safety of highways and bridges in plateau and mountainous areas. In the past five years, it has participated in the compilation of 7 national, industrial and local standards, and won 3 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards.

Brief Introduction:

Highway & Railway engineering depends on the high - grade Highway and Railway Engineering in high intensity heavy hilly area in southwest China.This specialty is dedicated to special roadbeds, bridges, tunnels and traffic systems engineering research. It has an important practical significance to solve the development of transportation industry which restricts the bottleneck of economic in Yunnan Province and also promotes the social progress and economic prosperity of the minority frontier area.

7. Bridge and Tunnel Engineering

Brief Introduction:

The main research object of this discipline is the design, construction, maintenance and management of engineering structures, such as various types of bridge and tunnel. Considering the characteristics of Yunnan province, our college have been doing research for many years into engineering practical problems, such as large-span high bridge in mountainous area, the structures design and calculation of extra-high bridge, the theory and practice of bridge seismic in high intensity area, the health diagnosis of the bridges that already built, generalized stability of surrounding rock (rockburst, large deformation of soft rock and high pressure water surge, etc) of deep extra-long tunnel (including hydraulic tunnel), the prediction and control of construction geological disaster, etc. They have gotten a lot of achievement and make an important contribution to the economic growth of Yunnan province.
